COUNTRY SWING COMP RULES: 

STRICTLY SWING

Divisions:
-Low-
-High-

-Howdy Partner-

(partners must be from different states)

 

STRICTLY SWING Rules: High & Low
The Competitor will be responsible for choosing the division in which they want to compete.
You must compete in the High Division if you are a current country swing dance instructor.

TYPES:
 Strictly: dance with the partner of your choice. You are welcome to come with a partner or find someone at the event, lifts are allowed only in high divisions

ROUNDS:
Each round will consist of 2-3 songs with 90 seconds of music. The number of rounds will be determined based on the number of couples. *The chief judge may request more songs/rounds.

SCORING:
 There will be a panel of 5-7 judges. Competitors will be judged as a partnership.
For finals, each couple will be judged as a partnership.
Judges will be looking for: Rhythm & Timing, Technique, Musicality, Teamwork, and Content.

JACK & JILL DIVISIONS:

The Line Dance Competition will be composed of multiple rounds. 

Competitors will be chosen by the judges to advance to the next round.

RULES: You must choose between Lower or Upper, you may not compete in both levels.
If you are a current line dance instructor you MUST compete in the Upper Division.

 

ROUNDS: The first round will be a full song and the following rounds will depend on judges needs. Number of rounds will be determined based on number of competitors.

 SCORING: There will be a panel of 5-7 judges.

Judges will be looking for:
Dance Knowledge (how well you know & execute the correct steps to the dance)
Timing (how well you dance with the music and stay on count with the beat & choreo)
Floor Presence (how well you showcase the dance with energy, personality, and style)

‘Couver Country is coming to town! Join us for the Second annual ‘Couver Country Swing Jack & Jill Competition!

When & Where:

    SwingCouver January 2nd to 5th, 2025.

Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up individually; all levels are welcome (no partner needed).
  • Choose either the Leader or Follower role (only one entry per person).
  • Check in 30 minutes before the contest to line up (staging).
  • Dancers will be rotated before each song in the preliminaries.
  • Leaders & Followers will be judged individually in the preliminaries.
  • Finalists will be randomly paired and judged as a partnership in the finals.

How to Register & Sign Up to Compete:

  • Online Registration opens on December 15th, 2023.
  • Full Weekend Pass holders can register for $20.
  • Can’t join us for the whole weekend? Get a NYE PARTY PASS, and your entry fee is included!
  • Compete ONLY for a $20 entry fee (register at the door before 2 pm on Sunday).

Schedule of the Day:

  • Sign in by 2 pm at the event registration desk (please get your wristband to compete).
  • Check in to compete by 3 pm, located on the left side of the ballroom (staging begins).
  • Preliminary rounds begin on the main ballroom floor.
  • Finalists will be called back and judged as a couple.
  • Awards will be presented following the Champions Jack & Jill WCS competition.

Workshop & Social Hour:

  • Join Alex & Ann Wood at 8 pm on Sunday as they teach the line dance “Have Fun, Go Mad.”
  • Enjoy the “Country Couver” Social Dance hour from 9 pm to 10 pm.
